Running this script will allow you to remove disabled items in the list of applications located on the startup tab within the System Configuration Utility. This script will only remove those items which are disabled. Changes made to the system by this script cannot be undone. The author of this script gives no warranty, and assumes no responsibility for problems arising from the use of this script. If you are willing to accept these conditions, then read on. First, you will need to access the System Configuration Utility, which can be done as follows: 1. From the start menu, open the, "run" dialogue. 2. Type, or copy the following and paste it into the run dialogue: msconfig 3. Press enter. 4. When the System Configuration Utility opens, you will be on the general tab, and one of the buttons in the list will have the focus. 5. Shift tab once, to place focus on the general tab. 6. Right arrowuntil you hear, "startup tab". 7. Press the tab key once, and you will be in the list view of applications Here you can use the up and down arrow keys to navigate the list, useing the spacebar to select or de-select items that will load at system startup. 8. When making your selections, be sure that you understand exactly what each item is. NOTE: Disableing the wrong items here can render your system un-accessible. 9. After making your selections, tab to the okay button, and spacebar it. You will recieve a message that the system needs to be re-started in order for the changes to take affect. Press the spacebar on the okay button, and the computer will then restart. 10. When the computer finishes the boot process, and your screen-reader is loaded, You will have the following message: System Configuration Utility You have used the System Configuration Utility to make changes to the way Windows starts. The System Configuration Utility is currently in Diagnostic or Selective Startup mode, causing this message to be displayed and the utility to run every time Windows starts. Choose the Normal Startup mode on the General tab to start Windows normally and undo the changes you made using the System Configuration Utility. 11. Tab once and you will have the following: Don't show this message or launch the System Configuration Utility when Windows starts checkbox not checked. Press the spacebar to check this box, and then tab once to the okay button, and spacebar it also. You are done with the System Configuration Utility. Running the script file. Now that you have disabled all of the items you don't want to display in the list it is time to run the script. 1. Navigate to the folder on your hard drive where you saved the file after downloading. 2. Select the file,msconfigdisabled.vbs and press enter. You will get the windows security dialogue asking if you want to open this file, so tab to the open button, and press enter. 3. When the script dialogue opens, you will be presented with a screen similar to the following: Disabled items in startupfolder key: C:^Documents and Settings^All Users^Start Menu^Programs^Startup^Microsoft Office.lnk C:^Documents and Settings^All Users^Start Menu^Programs^Startup^Microtek Scanner Finder.lnk Disabled items in startupreg key: Acronis Scheduler2 Service Acronis True Image Monitor HPDJ Taskbar Utility igfxhkcmd igfxpers igfxtray MSMSGS Would you like to selectively delete any of these items? Yes No Note: the disabled items shown here are for demonstration purposes only, and do not represent the items found on your personal machine. 4. If you use the tab key, you will find there are 2 buttons, yes, and no. So, if you wish to continue, tab to the yes button, and press the spacebar to activate this option. If you wish to quit, tab to the no button, and spacebar it, this will exit the script. 5. If you have pressed the yes button, then the script will move thru the list one item at a time and you will recieve a dialogue similar to the following each time: Do you want to delete C:^Documents and Settings^All Users^Start Menu^Programs^Startup^Microtek Scanner Finder.lnk? This operation cannot be undone! Yes No Pressing the spacebar on the yes button, will remove the selected entry, and the script will continue to move thru the list. Pressing the spacebar on the no button, will skip the selected item, and the script will continue to move thru the list. 6. Doing a windows f file search none can be located. Doing a search in regedit none can be located.
