Regarding the spell check when using Word 2016, I do agree that the ability to access the functions via the tab key is quite convenient.
It took me a while to figure out the change between Word 2010 and Word 2016, but the tab key navigation feature is really nice. It is highly accessible, I am an office 365 subscriber, so that is how I was able to get the latest update. I am unsure about installations of Office that are not on a 365 subscription, but I believe that you can go to the Accounts tab under the file tab and attempt to check for updates. I completely acknowledge the hideous situation with the Edge browser, but I believe that Microsoft has been pretty transparent in making their plans known to incrementally improve accessibility of their Windows and Office products.
