This is what I do also. Microsoft have more advanced malware protection
features, but they seem to be available only for Windows 10 Enterprise (not
the Pro edition that's installed on my laptop).

I would use Windows Defender as it has come up in the rating and is totally
accessible in W10. It also is free and is already installed on W10
computers.
