Adam, I'm using windows 7, and I can confirm that a Windows Update is downloading and even get some information on progress, although if more than one update is involved, the percentage indication is limited to each item, not the whole set of downloads. In Win7, I do the following: JAWS key+F11 for the system tray. Arrow down to something like "Update is ready" and press enter. (I don't have one in my system tray now, so I can't give you the exact wording. However, MS is not named.) Now I press tab until I come across the system tray list in button form. Once again, I locate that "Update" item and press enter. >From here on, I can get JAWS to verbalize update progress by pressing JAWS >key+tab.
I hope I've correctly remembered these steps.
