Hi All, Thank you Dennis for pointing me in the correct direction. The Dell Rep change the sound card driver to Intel (or something like that). It was some type of advanced driver called Real something. I apologize for not remember the exact names of these. The Dell Rep made a note in my account so that if for some reason in the future it gets changed back we will know where to start.
As much as I dreaded laying out the money for the Dell Pro Support Plus, I am glad I did. I've now received at least 5 hours of support. Thanks to all for your ideas. I had this problem a few years ago and had to get non dell specific drivers before it would work properly if memory serves me right. -----Original Message----- From: JAWS-Users-List [mailto:jaws-users-list-boun...@jaws-users.com] On Behalf Of amca...@verizon.net Sent: Wednesday, October 25, 2017 10:15 PM To: jaws-users-list@jaws-users.com Subject: Re: [JAWS-Users] New Computer Not Playing Well with JAWS18 Hi All, I just spent the past 2 hours on the phone with Dell Technical Support. They updated various Drivers, and adjusted a few other things. There has only been a slight improvement with JAWS. The volume is not fluctuating as much, but the clipping of what JAWS is saying is still a problem, especially when I am typing. There does not appear to be anything having to deal with Enhanced sound effects. Does anyone have any other ideas? Is there a chance that it will not be possible for me to use this computer with JAWS? I will make another call to FS tomorrow. JAWS18 latest build is installed on the new laptop which is a Dell 5480 running Windows10. The JAWS volume is jumping all over the place and what JAWS is saying is being clipped off. Here is what I've attempted so far without a fix. Called FS who told me that I had to turn off the special sound effects. Since she did not know how to do this, she recommended that I call Microsoft Disability support. All that the Microsoft support person wanted to do was turn off all sounds. My husband and I have poked around in the various sound settings and cannot find anything. I called back to FS and they had me run a JAWS repair. There was no improvement. I called back to FS yet again, and was told that while she's heard of the problem she has no idea on how to fix it. She did tell me that I need to find sound enhancements for the sound card and figure out which ones to turn off. If anyone can direct me in the right direction, I would really appreciate it. I always forget which one is outgoing mail, and which incoming, but the way you described SMTP and what it does makes it a good deal clearer. I switched back to pop3 because I hated having to delete messages from the server when I was using IMAP. Just seemed like extra time wasted to me. -----Original Message----- From: JAWS-Users-List [mailto:jaws-users-list-boun...@jaws-users.com] On Behalf Of Humberto Rodriguez Sent: October 20, 2017 7:52 PM To: jaws-users-list@jaws-users.com Subject: Re: [JAWS-Users] Connectivity to server Outlook 2016 Good advice, nothing to worry about unless it persists; from time to time, for diverse reasons, Outlook is not able to connect to a mail servier when trying to send and receive, something it normally does when opened and periodically thereafter. POP3 is Post Office Protocol, wherein you actually download your messages from the server to your computer. IMAP is newer, in it you download only the headers, your message remains at the server. SMTP or Simple Mail Transfer Protocol is what sends your messages out to your mail server, which in turn forwards to the next server in the chain and so on to however many are necessary until it reaches the recipient's server, where it awaits access by te recipient, either Online, with POP3 or with IMAP. There are several types of e-mail servers out there, Microsoft Exchange Server being one. Some just require you to set up a username and password; others need you to manually set up port numbers, encryption type and so on. All this stuff clearly has already been done on your system, so it doesn't sound like there's anything to worry about so long as you are getting messages on all your accounts. The pop3 (or is it smtp, I always forget) servers will are designed so you can connect, grab your messages and then disconnect. Usually on modern internet connections this all happens really quickly, but it could take longer if you have a lot of messages or if they contain large attachments. I don't know the specific messages that appear on the screen for each connection type, but it just sounds like JAWS is reading these. If you get an error message on any of your accounts that is consistently happening over a period of a couple of days, contact your e-mail provider. -----Original Message----- From: JAWS-Users-List [mailto:jaws-users-list-boun...@jaws-users.com] On Behalf Of Laura Richardson Sent: October 20, 2017 5:20 PM To: jaws-users-list@jaws-users.com Subject: [JAWS-Users] Connectivity to server Outlook 2016 Hello, I'm using Outlook 2016, Jaws 18 & Windows 10 .. I have several email accounts but Jaws does not give me the same message on each account. *On one email account, after Jaws told me the name of the email account and the information of the email message highlighted Jaws said "connectivity to your server disconnected"; this did not prevent me from sending or receiving email messages. The next time I went to this email account, after announcing the email account and highlighted email message information Jaws said "connectivity to your server trying to connect .. connectivity to server connected to: Microsoft exchange". *On a different email account, after Jaws tells me the name of the email account and the highlighted email message information Jaws says "connectivity to server connected". *On the other email account, I don't get any message regarding connectivity to server.
