Rebecca,

A partial response. First, I knew of the October update only because another
contributor here, Mike B, posted not only the alert, but also the download
links and the improvements list. You can count on him to keep us advised of
every release.
FYI, JAWS uses the word "version" to refer to the basic number (such as 17, 18,
now 2018). Periodically "releases" or new "builds" are released, and this is
where you get the four digits following the decimal point.

I'm a long-term JAWS user, but like you, I wait a while to make sure a new
version doesn't have something unpleasant lurking in it. I'm grateful that
other JAWS users are more eager to keep up to date.

Others will have to answer your Edge questions.

Subject: [JAWS-Users] Several Questions

I'm a new JAWS user migrated from Window-Eyes, so be patient with what may be
questions with obvious answers. Smile..

I'm currently running JAWS 18 with the September 2017 update.

I got no notification of a later update and the Check For Updates in the Help
menu confirms that I'm running the most current version. But I found this on
the JAWS website:

JAWS 18.0.4350 64-bit English - October 2017

The following is a list of improvements made between the JAWS 18 September
2017 release and the October 2017 update.

list of 3 items

. Resolved a customer reported issue with the 8400 series of Outlook 365
updates where JAWS was not automatically reading the suggested addresses when

typing in the address fields of a new message. To check your Outlook 365
version, use the JAWS command CTRL+INSERT+V while focused in Outlook.

. Addressed issues where Edge would unexpectedly stop working while navigating
on various pages.

. Added new Research It lookup sources to the French version of JAWS for two
libraries for the blind in France.

list end

I found this only because I was helping a friend set up Edge and her arrows
weren't reading down the page. A JAWS tech told her there was an October
update.

My Edge is reading properly. Should I put the new update in anyway? I plan to
download 2018 but It will probably be a month or two before the Fall Creator's
update finds my computer, so I thought I'd let more technical
people test-drive the 2018 version of JAWS for the next few weeks.

Also, the JAWS tech told my friend, if she understood correctly, that there is
no virtual cursor in Edge. When I've tried to copy material in Edge, JAWS
says, "selection using the virtual cursor is not yet supported in Edge."

I had assume from this that the virtual cursor is being used.

And my last comment, for those of you running JAWS 2018, are you now able to
select and copy text, or is this still in the works?

Thanks.
