Hey go into start menu, settings, taskbar and start menu. One of the tabs there is system tray. make sure the hide enactive icons box is unchecked. Not sure how to find this dialog in Vista, I've done it but can't remember where it is. try pressing the applications key on differend parts of the desktop.
