Agreed, needing to switch between browsers, especially when one is the default, is annoying and a little time-consuming.

I don't have an answer to your specific question, but I do have some thoughts. First, once you've opened the page, try F5 to reload it and JAWS key+escape to refresh. These two steps should ensure the page is stable. You might also maximize the page with alt-spacebar followed by x. You mention tabbing to get to the edit field. Tabbing will put you in the edit field only if you're already in another edit field. Finally, have you tried accessing the edit fields with another browser? I was having a similar problem, only the reverse of yours. I have gone to a web site I go to regularly and it normally lands on a Username field then I go onto Password. Today it is not in the Username and when I get there it will not accept input. I have tried Enter, Tabbing to the next field & Shift tabbing back, also tried Alt + TAB and no joy on anything. I also tried Ctrl + INS + HOME with no success.
