Ok. So I just opened up process explorer for the first time in a while, and despite being quite a bit more detailed, it's a lot faster. I also forgot that all these utilities are now owned by microsoft, which probably explains why it's so easy to make it your new task manager. It also should reassure anyone who might feel weird about replacing a core windows component with something else. Your ctrl-shift-escape key short-cut will still work, too. I strongly suggest downloading this and using it instead. I tested the "replace task manager option on my Windows 10 machine and it works perfectly. Be aware that there is a 64 and a 32 bit version of process explorer. The 32 bit version will not show 64 bit applications, though I have had the 64 bit version crash a few times on my machine -- seems to be working well now though. See this page for information and download links etc: https://docs.microsoft.com/en-us/sysinternals/downloads/process-explorer

I think work needs to go into this. I would say 10 to 15 seconds is more accurate completely unacceptable in my opinion. -----Original Message----- From: JAWS-Users-List [mailto:jaws-users-list-boun...@jaws-users.com] On Behalf Of JM Casey Sent: Tuesday, January 16, 2018 4:14 PM To: jaws-users-list@jaws-users.com Subject: Re: [JAWS-Users] Task Manager in Windows 10 is really slow when JAWS is running Glad I'm not alone here. Actually, I think 5 seconds was a generous estimate; it's probably closer to ten in some cases. What's to be done?! -----Original Message----- From: JAWS-Users-List [mailto:jaws-users-list-boun...@jaws-users.com] On Behalf Of Dennis Long Sent: January 16, 2018 2:48 PM To: jaws-users-list@jaws-users.com Subject: Re: [JAWS-Users] Task Manager in Windows 10 is really slow when JAWS is running I can confirm this with latest jaws2018. -----Original Message----- From: JAWS-Users-List [mailto:jaws-users-list-boun...@jaws-users.com] On Behalf Of JM Casey Sent: Tuesday, January 16, 2018 12:50 PM To: jaws-users-list@jaws-users.com Subject: [JAWS-Users] Task Manager in Windows 10 is really slow when JAWS is running Hi everyone. The subject pretty much explains it all. JAWS takes several seconds to announce names and details of processes as I arrow through them, or use the tab key to move between the different columns. I estimate that between a key press and JAWS actually saying something, the wait is often as much as five seconds. This annoys me a lot, because task manager is supposed to be a quick and easy way to end/start/manipulate processes. I've thought of swapping out the native Windows task manager for Process Explorer. But that programme has a lot more detail and fine tuning options than Microsoft's Task Manager, and more animated graphics, so I'm not really sure that would improve the situation. I know this has to do with JAWS, because when my sighted partner uses TM, it's as quick as can be. It does seem more responsive using NVDA, but I'm wondering if there's any way I can improve the situation re/using JFW. I'm using JAWS 18, and have W10 1709. Thanks.
