You got two questions there. Regarding the Address toolbar: Hit ctrl+tab until you get to the Address bar, or the main page, whichever you want at the time. Now, for the other: You may have turned on the default search page (which operates in Internet Explorer, and maybe in Firefox as well although I don't know for sure) with the control-e toggle. Next time you open a page in Internet Explorer, hit ctrl+e and see what that gives.
