John,

This may not assist you directly, but lately when I've encountered this
problem, I've found that the JAWS convenient OCR feature reproduces the text
with the spaces between words intact. I don't recall if JAWS convenient OCR was
included with JAWS 16. If it was, you might try it and compare results.
Keystrokes: JAWS key+spacebar, then separately o for OCR , then d for document.
The process can be slow. The results will be displayed in a separate window.

Subject: [JAWS-Users] Some PDFs do not read properly

Hi all,

For a while now, I have noticed that some PDFs are not read properly by Jaws or
NVDA. What happens is that multiple words are read as one long word, with no
spaces between the words. This is not on all PDFs, just some. I have never
encountered this problem with PDFs that I have created using either MS Word or
PDF995. On the PDFs that have a problem, I have extracted them to text files
and the problem will also show up in the text file. Someone had once suggested
that the problem is related to the original font being used, but that does not
make any sense. So, Can anyone shed a little light on this problem?

Here is a link to a PDF with the problem I have described (from last weeks Top
Tech Tidbits newsletter):

I am using Windows 7, Jaws 16/NVDA 2018.1 and Acrobat Reader DC
2018.011.20040.

Thanks,

John
