Hi, no the free version doesn't provide this functionality. There is an on-access scanner, but I could never figure out what that was used for. If that's to protect you on the internet, then I sincerely apologize for saying that Avast provides more protection to the internet than AVG. It's just I never saw AVG pop up an alert to tell me a virus was detected whilst browsing the web. Just my £0.02 worth.
