Hi, I know that in the latest build of JAWS 9 you can stop JAWS from reading 
web pages automatically. This can be set using the Adjust JAWS Options 
dialogue box, under the general options category I think. Anyway, look for 
document automatically read and press space to turn it off. Then press enter 
to save your changes. In terms of OE6, do the above, but look for messages 
automatically read and press space to turn it off and press enter. Hope that
