It means that it is a PowerPoint slide show and they have notoriously poor accessibility. If it could be sent to you as a ppt file life would be easier. Unfortunately accessible programs like Ed Sharp do not work well with PPS files even though it can handle PPT files fine. Basically the only way you are going to make this pps file accessible is to open this file within PowerPoint. You can then save it as an outline which will produce an accessible rtf version containing any readable text. Associating this file type is a waste of time. Trying to open a PPS file by double clicking will simply produce a slide show which in my experience has no accessibility at all for a screen reader and will not allow you to access editing or save menus to change the format. By all means send the file to me and I will try to produce an rtf version which can be read in word. The extent to which this is successful will depend on the extent to which accessible text has been put in the slide show in the first place. Another approach might be to do a virtual scan with Kurzweil. Whoever is sending you PPS try to discourage then from using this format. Are you sure this is not PDF ? To check in Outlook 2003 Press Insert A again. This time press the minus key on the num pad to turn on the Jaws cursor. Now press num pad 5 twice to turn phonetic spelling on. Now slowly right cursor along the file name to find out for definite what the file type is. If it is pts it will say Papa tango sierra . If it is PDF it will say Papa, Delta, Foxtrot. A check on Google reveals that there are some pts files out there but they are pretty obscure so it is worth checking first. As the message you are receiving does not include the file type , we cannot at the moment tell you what specifically the program is that you should be associating with this attachment. In the message you pasted the address path is so long that it is expiring in ...., preventing us from seeing the file name and extension. We need to know what the file extension of the attached file is that is causing this message. Go back to the email where you have a problem. Press Insert A and tell us what the file name and extension is. Once we know what program to associate with this file we can advise on the many ways that you can associate this file with a program to open it. One thing to eliminate is that sometimes a file with a .dat extension is attached to emails. If you are trying to open one of these you can safely ignore these as they are system files. If you really want to read these you can associate notepad to open them. Still investigate what the file is first. When I try to open them, here is the message that I get. Microsoft Outlook Dialogue. The file C\Documents and Settings\Donnie Parrett\Local Settings\Temporary Internet Files...does not have a program associated with it for this action. To create an association double click my computer on your desktop. On the view menu click options and then click file types. Okay What can I do to be able to open these types of attachments?
