I never saw a reason to download SilverLight. Apparently, it is Microsoft's answer to advanced streaming Multimedia. I guess that it is in competition with Flash? It does not seem to be very widely used at this point. The only sites I have seen that use it are the paid subscriptions at WWE and MLB on demand video services. Neither of these interest me, even if they were free.
