David,

You have upgraded your XP to the latest SP3 and you have upgraded
FireFox to the latest version 3 it sounds like. The only thing you have
not upgraded is JAWS. If you install JAWS 10, you will find it working
much better in the latest FireFox. Not just reading the text in the
edits, but other areas as well. I also suggest you try IE 7 with JAWS 10
installed. You will even find that your JAWS 8 version works better in
IE once JAWS 10 has been installed since the shared components are
updated.

This is one of the benefits of JAWS, you can install newer versions and
run them as a demo in order to test and see the improvements and
differences. Hopefully you'll see the benefit and purchase the upgrades.

Subject: [JAWS-Users] Problems reading Edit Boxes in Firefox

Dear list,

Due to the security alert re Internet Explorer I have had to, for the
time being, switch to Firefox. I have always found this browser clunky
but I can get by for the time being. One particularly annoying problem
persists however and that is that on my setup Jaws seems incapable of
reading text in Firefox edit boxes whilst in forms mode.

I am using Jaws 8 on an XP Pro machine SP3 with the latest version of
Firefox.

The symptoms are that Jaws will provide a typing echo whilst typing in
the edit box but will not be able to read what you have actually typed
in unless you switch back out of forms mode. This makes it impossible
to edit anything you have entered in an edit box, perhaps after you have
made a typing mistake. I am prone to making typing errors!

I have tried switching the screen echo settings between highlighted,
all and none without success. This seems to be a problem between Jaws 8
and Firefox as I have never had this problem with Internet Explorer. .

Does anybody know of a fix for this ?
Thanks

David Griffith
