There are a few ways to accomplish what you are wanting to do. One good way is to use Windows Defender to select what programs should or should not start with Windows. You can also use the Windows Configuration Utility, or if you feel safe working in the registry then you can find all of the run areas in the current user and the local machine hives and remove the appropriate keys. I recommend that you use the Windows Defender method first. You should only delete keys and values from the Windows registry if you are sure of what you are doing. it is also a good idea to backup the Windows registry if you make any changes to it. Let me know if you need more information, but I will give steps below for using Windows Defender for stopping programs from starting with Vista.

If you have your control panel set to classic view then do the following:

1. Open the control panel from the Windows start menu.
2. Open the "performance information and tools" choice.
3. Use tab key to move to the "manage startup programs" link and press the enter key. 4. Use tab key a few times until you hear a combo box announced with the category being "startup programs." Use tab once more to move into the list of programs. 5. Use up and down arrow keys to move between the programs that are currently starting with your Vista operating system. If JAWS says "not selected" then just keep using the arrow key in the given direction until you hear the programs. you might try Alt with down arrow to see if this will let you move more easily using the up and down arrow keys. 6. When you have a program selected you can use the tab key to move to a read only box that gives information about the program. Use CTRL-home to move to the top of the read-only box and then you can use down arrow to read the contents of the text. You will be given such information as program name, display name, description, publisher, digital signature, file type, start up value, file path, size and version, date installed, startup type, location, classification, whether or not it ships with the operating system and spynet voting info if applicable. 7. Use tab key to move to various buttons including a "disable" button. Press spacebar on the "disable" button to disable the program from starting with Windows.
8. Use Apply, OK, etc. to complete the process.

If you are not using the control panel in the classic view then get to this same dialog box by doing the following:

1. Open the control panel.
2. In the edit box type "stop a program from running" (don't include the quotes). 3. use tab key to find the link "stop a program from running at startup" and press the enter key.
4. Use tab key until you get to the list of running programs.

Although the above is a longer process than using the configuration utility, using Windows Defender as shown above gives more information about the program you are enabling or disabling.

Take care.
