One of the nice additions to IE 8 is the use of accelerators. However, I have
not been able to find the accelerator button. Default accelerators are
available when using the application key, and the accelerators can easily be
used in new tabs, but there apparently is an accelerator button that can be
used. If anyone knows how to find it, please let me know. I added an
accelerator and made it default, but it doesn't show in the list of all
accelerators when using the application key.

Here is a brief synopsis of how I am currently using accelerators:

There are two accelerators that I use quite often. One of them is a
translation tool and the other one is a "shop and save" accelerator from Live
Search. I will use the latter as an example.

1. Select words on a web page. This can be text on any web page or text that
a person types in an edit box.
2. While text is selected open a new tab using CTRL+T.
3. If focus stays on the address bar in the new tab, (which has happened to
me) then use F6 until focus is moved into the content of the new tab. You
should hear that the page has so many links, and you might hear something like
"what to you want to do next."
4. You can then use JAWS key with F7 to list links. If you want to translate
the text then use T in the list of links until you hear something like
"translate using Live Search. There are a couple links before the one you want
that have to do with the translator. I have added the "shop and save" add-on
so I press the letter "F" to get to the "find products shop and save" link and
press enter. A person can also easily use down arrow to the link without using
the links list and press enter on the link. The resultant page shows the
results.

I typed "external hard drive" in the Google edit box, selected it and then
opened a new tab and used the "find products" accelerator. The resultant page
showed me a list of external hard drives from various manufacturers, their
description, a range of pricing, user reviews, etc.

I have also used the translator accelerator by selecting the text on a web
page, opening a new tab and then picking the "translate with Live Search"
choice. The default settings for translating from a particular language to
another one are used. The language used for translating to was not the one I
wanted, and I had some trouble getting the browser to remember my settings. I
was able to use the combo box on the translator's page to pick the language
from and to that I wanted but the next time I translated something the settings
reverted to default settings. After I cleared cookies and chose the languages I
wanted to use again, my settings were retained in subsequent text translations.
Apparently, default settings can be changed through "options" on the
translator.live.com page but I didn't find where to change language settings
for translation purposes.

If anyone wants to add accelerators you can do it through the "manage add-ons"
dialog. The choice is in the tools menu. In the dialog box use down arrow in
the group of radio buttons where you pick the type of add-on until you get to
accelerators. Use the tab key to the button for finding more accelerators and
press enter key. A web page will be loaded that lets you choose accelerators
and add them to your browser.

 Take care.
