Don,
I experienced the same thing and I was able to correct it by changing the
template property of my contacts folder from "Contact" to "All Items." To
do this, go to your contacts folder properties, then to customize tav then
tab once then change "use this template as contact to all items" then tab to
OK then enter. Hopefully, this will solve your problem.

Subject: Re: [JAWS-Users] Address book list in Vista Windows Mail; Corrupted
I have been avoiding the Contacts folder for over a year. Every time I
view the list, the process hangs! It does this as soon as I try to arrow
through the list. I have tried both in list and detail views. Right now,
it has hung and will not respond to a End Task command in Task Manager.
Is it possible to export to another file, Google contacts or Windows Live
Mail? I was hoping that I could wipe out all contacts and reload them.
Perhaps I screwed up somewhere when I moved from XP to Vista. Back then I
simply Pressed Enter on an XP WAB file. Should I have done something
differently? Soon I will have to migrate to Windows 7. Does Windows 7
still use the Contacts folder? Does Windows Live Mail use this folder or
is it exported to / synched somewhere in the clouds?

Hello Russ,
A quick way to bring up Windows contacts is to use CTRL+shift+C. Some HP
laptops use that hotkey to bring up HP Health Check, so you would want to
change it. If you type "Windows contacts" in the search box in the start
menu you will find the program. Go into properties by using the
application key and then up arrow until you get to the properties choice.
Press enter key on properties and use tab to the edit box where you can
enter the keystroke. You might consider using Alt+CTRL+C. Use tab to
move to the apply or OK button and press enter.
When in the list of messages in your Email you can use JAWS key with F8
to bring up a toolbar and then press C until you get to contacts. Press
enter on the choice to open contacts.
You can send a message from Windows contacts by moving to the contact
(which can be done with arrow keys or first letter navigation). When the
contact name is selected use the application key followed by A for the
action menu followed by E for send Email. Windows Mail will open with
the contact's name in the "To" field.
When in Windows Contacts you will only hear the contacts' names as you
move up and down the list. If you want to hear the Email address when
moving up and down the list you can do the following:
1. Move into Windows Contacts and make sure no entry is selected. If an
entry is selected then remove selection by using CTRL+spacebar.
2. Press the application key and find the view menu. Use right arrow
into the submenu and then use down arrow to see if "details" is the
checked choice. If not then press enter key on the details choice.
3. Still with no entry selected press application key again and arrow
down to the "sort" menu. use right arrow key into the submenu and arrow
up to the "more" choice and press enter key.
4. Press the letter "E" until you get to the Email Address choice and
press spacebar to check it to be used.
5. use tab key to an edit box that sets the width of the choice in
pixels. It might show 0 so you can change it to something like 100.
6. Use tab key to Apply, OK, or whatever the positive response is to get
out of the dialog and save changes.
7. You still won't hear the Email address when you use down arrow, but
if you read the current line after using up or down arrow then you will
hear the Email address.
Take care.

Subject: [JAWS-Users] Address book list in Vista Windows Mail
Hi Everyone,
As a past user with Outlook Express, I enjoyed being able to tab to my
address book. To do this I made this possible by doing the following:
1. Opened the view menu and arrowed down to Layout and entered
2. I entered to check contacts. This allowed me to tab from the inbox to
my address book.
Once in my address book I could simply arrow down and enter on a name to
open a new e-mail.
I bought a laptop with Vista and Windows Mail. I followed the directions
above but found no contacts in the view menu.
Now I have to follow a longer process to get to my contacts.
If anyone with Vista who is using Windows mail has an idea, I would sure
appreciate your advice.
Thanks much,
Russ
