Well, none of the offered methods have worked for me.

Another odd thing is that I don't see where to download the update on the site. I thought I had it but nothing happened.

Is there any particular reason why, after all these versions they haven't decided to make the base version a standard Windows application? I mean, there isn't any good reason why they could not have standard menu bars is there?

That's very interesting- especially I have never had to do that with any
previous versions. Sounds like WinAmp is determined to force updates by
making it harder and harder to shut them down.

There is also a checkbox checked, , somewhere in the Preferences, probably
General although it's very late where I am now, where it says, "return to
Winamp defaults at start-up"; so you need to uncheck that one as well.

I agree and it never worked for me as well and I had to close the
program by going to the windows task manager. But of course the update
box appears only when you are connected to the internet. The annoying
thing is that they come out with an update at least thrice a month and
I wish that I could have an alternative to this annoying program.

Thanks. We will try that and hope it works.

Hi Dale,
Can you close it with control plus F4 or control tab to the main
Winamp
window?
Also if it is the update prompt I'm thinking of you can go to
General
under
Preferences (control plus p followed by g until you hear "General
Preferences" and tab through and look for "Check for new versions of
Winamp
at startup " and uncheck this box.

I have Winamp to play MP3 files and such. When I click on a file
Winamp
plays the file alright but I cannot get to the application to start
and
stop
or pause or any of that because of this darn New Version message
which
will
not be dismissed. ALT-F4 doesn't kill it, there isn't a close option
on
the
Applications menu, there isn't a File menu or any other with a Close
option,
there doesn't seem to be any way to get rid of it but to reboot.
Second
time
in a given day it doesn't appear and I can go to the application and
use
the
functions.

This really is Malware, an application which takes charge and will
not be
terminated.

So far as I can tell, the only advantage to having the new update
might be
to get rid of this notice and of course to fill up my computer with
album
art I suppose.

Any help with this would be appreciated.

Dale Leavens.
