Kimsan,

In Excel 2007 the define names choice and the name manager are found under
the formulas tab. You can also bring up the name manager by using CTRL+F3
when in the cell where you want the name to be placed. In the name manager
you can add, edit and delete names. Using a name of title will cause JAWS
to read both column and row titles as you arrow up and down or right and
left. Using the words row and title as one word with capital letters on
each word will cause JAWS to only read row titles as you use up and down
arrow keys. Typing the two words column title as one word with capital
letters on column and title will cause JAWS to only read column titles as
you arrow from left to right across a row.

Take care.

I think so. Go ahead and try it. I have been doing this to my Excel files
for quite sometime.

Hi Mich,
In order for you to understand an Excel document, it is very helpful that
you are able to hear the titles of the rows and columns. This way, you can
better understand the information presented.
Usually, going across the top of the page, you will hear information/a
heading for each column. As you arrow down through the rows, you can then
right arrow through each one.
I am sending you some information that will help you set up the row and
titles so that you can hear them.

Using Names to Create Column and Row Titles

 1. Open Excel. A new workbook containing three worksheets appears. The
focus is on cell A1 of worksheet one.
 2. Press ALT+I to open the Insert menu.
 3. Press N to move to and open the Name submenu. The first item in this
submenu is "Define."
 4. Press ENTER and the Define Name dialog box opens. The cursor is in the
Names in Workbook edit field.
 5. Type in the word Title (capital T) and press ENTER to close the dialog
box. Focus is returned to the worksheet again in cell A1.

Now, arrow down to row2. As you arrow across, you will hear each column's
information along with the information from the row which you are in.
You can save this file and these settings will remain there.

Hope this makes sense,
Russ
