Hi Kimber; Yes, you were supposed to open the configuration manager. If you closed and didn't save your changes there is no harm. We'll do this step by step. There are a couple of ways to open the configuration manager so, here we go. 1. A. Press Insert / Jaws key + 6 on the number row above the main keyboard. B. Press Insert / Jaws key + F2, arrow down to configuration manager and press enter. You now have the configuration manager for whatever program you are in open but, we want to open the default configuration manager to have the changes effect all programs. 2. Press control, shift, + D to open the default configuration manager. 3. Now, press press Alt + S to open the set options menu. 4. When the set options menu opens you will be on the first option which is user options. Press enter to open user options. 5. Tab 2 times and Jaws will read typing echo characters check box checked if this is what is selected. You want to arrow down 1 time so that Jaws reads typing echo words 3 of 4 check box checked. 6. Now that you have the typing echo words check box, checked tab to okay and press the spacebar to close. 7. Press Alt + F4 to close and Jaws will ask you if you want to save your changes. Choose yes and press enter. Now, Jaws should only repeat words as you type. Hope this has gotten you fixed up. Take care.
