You can rename the name of the folder that shows at the top of the start menu and in a few other places by changing the registered owner's name in the registry. However, although you change the folder name you will have to take additional steps to actually change the name of the c:\users\store folder. If you don't mind working in the registry then the following steps should help you in renaming the folder for the user in the start menu. I suggest that you first export your current registry settings and note where they are saved before changing things in the registry. Without knowing your level of experience working with computers, I need to mention that you should be cautious when working in the Windows registry. You won't get a chance to save or cancel when you finish changing things and results can certainly be troublesome if you inadvertently change things you don't mean to change. The export choice is in the file menu of the registry. In the export dialog box be sure that after naming the registry backup file that you use tab key to a group of radio buttons that determine if the entire registry or just a current branch is to be exported. You should use the "all" choice if changes will be in more than one branch of the registry. Also tab in that dialog box and be sure you note the location for the saved exported file. With that out-of-the way here is how you can make your changes: 1. Press Windows key with R to bring up the run dialog box. 2. Type in "regedit" (without the quotes) and press enter key. This will open the registry editor. 3. In the registry you will be presented with a tree view/list view structure. You can use tab key and shift+tab between the tree and list views. You can open levels in the tree view by using a right arrow key and close levels by using a left arrow key. If focus is in the tree view then you want to start at the top of the tree structure. JAWS should tell you as you use tab and shift+tab if you are in the list or tree view. When focus is in the tree view use the home key to move to the top of it. If JAWS says "computer closed" then use right arrow to open that level. 4. When focus is on "my computer" and the level is open then using down arrow key moves you from hive to hive in the registry. Use down arrow key to the HKEY_LOCAL MACHINE entry and use right arrow to open another level. 5. Press S until you get to the "software" choice and press right arrow key. 6. Press the letter "M" until you get to the "Microsoft" choice and use right arrow key. 7. Press the letter "W" until you get to the "Windows NT" choice and use right arrow to open another level. 8. Use down arrow to the "current version" entry. 9. Use tab key into the list view. 10.Press the letter "R" until you get to the "registered organization" choice. 11.If you want to change the registered organization then press enter key on that choice. In the resulting dialog box the focus should be in an edit box with the current name in it. You can use the end key to move to the end of the current organization name and use backspace until the string of text is gone. Type in the name for the organization, tab to the OK button and press enter key. 12.Use down arrow key to the "registered owner" choice. If it is not the next entry then continue using down arrow key or pressing the letter "R" until you find the choice for the registered owner. 13.Press enter key to be taken where the value of the current owner is shown in the edit box. Use end key and then backspace to remove the current string of text and type in the owner name you want used. Tab to the OK button and press enter key. 14. Use a shift+tab keystroke to move back to the tree view. 15.With the 64-bit version of Windows you also want to make the changes for the registered organization and registered owner in another registry key. Use tab key to move to the top of the tree view and make sure that "computer" is open. 16. Use down arrow to the HKEY_LOCAL MACHINE entry and use right arrow key to open another level. Press S until you find the "software" choice and use right arrow key to open it. Press the letter "W" until you find an entry for "WOW6432Node." And then press right arrow key to open another level. Press "M" until you find the "Microsoft" choice and then right arrow key to open another level. Press "W" until you find the "Windows NT" choice and use right arrow key to open another level. Press "C" until you get to the "current version" choice. 17.Use tab key to move into the list of items. 18.Press the letter "R" and if you have entries for "registered organization" and/or "registered owner" change them in the same way as you did previously. 19.There might be one other area to change in the registry. Press shift+tab to move to the tree view and then home key to move to the top of it. 20.Use down arrow key until you find the HKEY_Current_User hive and then use right arrow key to open it. 21.Press the letter "v" until you find the entry for "volatile environment." 22.Use tab key into the list view and then use down arrow key until you find a "UserName" entry. You do not want the "UserDomain" choice but the specific entry for UserName." 23.Press enter key and change the string of text as you did in previous steps from the existing entry to the new owner name. 24.Close the registry with Alt+F4. The above steps are for changing the user name for the folder that appears in the start menu. There are additional steps for changing the actual user folder found in c:\users\UserName but the steps involve creating another user account, logging into the new administrator user account that you create and renaming the folder, logging out-of-the newly created account, logging back into the original account that was changed and then deleting if desired the newly created account. Software had been loaded because it was on the shelf. So now the folder where all my files, docs etc go is a folder named Store. Where can I go to rename this please. I did find an option to rename this computer but that did not work. I press the start button and tab once and this is where this folder is, right at the top of the list.
