Ok, let's try to take this in steps.

You can do a lot of this yourself using Windows Easy Transfer wizard. If both computers can be connected using a home network, or USB cable, you can do it quickly. If not, you can still do it using a USB drive, or CD-R disks. That will allow you to select which types of data are transferred from your old to your new computer.

With specific reference to your questions below, first, Outlook Express uses different mail arthitecture than Outlook. You can use Outlook Express's Export Address Book and Messages under the file menu to export your messages to Outlook. When you hit on Export, you will have a submenu, choose messages.

Second, you can use the same method to export your addresses. Or, you can use the Windows 7 Easy Transfer Wizard to export your addresses and other data from your old computer and place them in the new computer, as I mentioned above.

Now, your friend Bill is probably not real knowledgeable as a tech. There are, in fact, programs which will allow you to actually move programs from one computer to another. PCMover is one and EasyMigrate is another. They aren't free, although I think there are demo versions. I used EasyMigrate a couple years ago to move programs from one computer to another. But, as I recall, EasyMigrate is best for taking a selective disk image so you can move programs etc. within the same operating system.

PcMover, on the other hand, will allow you to move programs from one operating system to another, as when you are upgrading your computer. You need to make sure you get the correct version of PcMover. It is available from LapLink Software at

Take my advice, I don't use it anyway.

Subject: [JAWS-Users] Outlook express help.

As most of you know I recently purchased an HP Pavilian 6510 computer 4 gb of ram (the ram can be increased to 16 gb), 750 storage of memory. Here is my question.

In a couple weeks I'm going to have some help transfering everything from the old computer to the new one. Bill the person that is helping me said my address book could be transfered from outlook express to the outlook e-mail program. I want to also have all of my e-mail folders saved from outlook express and moved into the outlook program. Bill told me he wasn't sure they would be able to do that. He also told me that both computers couldn't be hooked up together either. They could use it as a guide how to transfer the programs over to the new computer but not to transfer the actual programs from the old computer to the new one.

So now in saying all of that how do I save all of my e-mail folders so they can go into the outlook program on the new computer? Hope to here from someone soon. Thanks in advance. It's greatly appreciated.

Best Wishes,
