Did you turn off your computer and re-boot it?

I am getting a windows explorer is not responding error message using windows seven on my d: drive. I ran avast to check for viruses, an avast boot scan, and checked the drive for errors. The system restore dates only reveal back two days when the problems seemed to have started. However, nothing seems to fix the issue.
