There are various ways to accomplish this. For a great explanation,
download and listen to the JAWS tutorial from the JAWS Help menu (Insert +
J) > Training, and select the "Column and Row Titles in Excel"tutorial.
One way is to set cell names in Excel, which are stored in the Excel
worksheet and work in any newer version of JAWS without configuration. This
is also an advantage if sharing worksheets to other JAWS users. Place focus
on the intersection of where your row and column titles meet. Hit the
Applications key and select "Name a range...". Type in the word "Title",
without the quotes and hit Enter. I think it might pick this up
automatically, but I always double check the settings. Press Insert + V,
for the "Adjust JAWS Settings". I collapse the first group by pressing Left
Arrow. Then I press the Down Arrow once and press the Left Arrow again to
collapse the second group. Now Arrow down through the Headings settings and
verify that they are set properly. The "Read Heading Titles" should be set
to "Both", and the row and column values should reflect your intersection
cell.
A second method is to place focus in the intersecting cell as before and go
straight to the "Adjust JAWS Settings" (Insert + V). Again, go down to the
third grouping and press the Spacebar to change values that need to be set.
These will be stored in the Personal Settings and will be applied to this
file in the future with this version of JAWS. It is not easily shared and
would need to be set in each version of JAWS used.

There is just so much stuff in the world that, to me, is devoid of any real
substance, value, and content that I just try to make sure that I am working
on things that matter.

How do I setup column/row headers in excel?
How do I get jaws 12 to read them as I navigate the sheet?
