If you use the companion software, the number of kilobytes is listed for each book and you can check how much room is left on the cartridge by looking at the status line. With jaws this is insert page down. For a 1 gig cartridge, I can get 6 or 7 books on it, depending on their length. There is usually a bit of room left, but not enough for a book.

Hi all, There may be an easier way to calculate but... I downloaded DB-Burnett, Carol-One More Time- A Memoir-DB25096 from USA Bard library and it states that book is 10 hours 31 minutes. I went into properties and book is Size: 110 MB (115,449,182 bytes) My friend has a 1 GB cartridge and he asked me how many books could fit on a cartridge. 1 GB = 1000 MB I used the 110 mb but I needed to round the bytes to 116 to get a good rounded number without truncation. so 1000 divided by 116 = 8.6 So approximately 8 complete books that are 10 hours and 31 minutes long could fit on 1 GB cartridge. Or approximately 84 / 85 hours can fit on a 1 GBB cartridge if downloaded from Bard site. What I did is that I copied the book to cartridge and then renamed it 1 to 9 and copied to cartridge and on the ninth time Windows stated disk is full. At first I divided 1000 by 110 but I need to take the byte size and round up to get an approximation. of this 10.5 hours could fit on a 1 GB cartridge.
