Word: Change Save Format

By default, Word 2010 saves to the DOCX format. If you regularly save documents 
to a different format (such as DOC, the format used by older versions of Word), 
you can make that format the default. Click the File tab and then click 
Options. Click the Save tab and then click the drop-down menu next to Save 
Files In This Format. Finally, click the OK button.
