John, thanks.  I willl also need to run several programs simultaneously and am 
wanting to avoid those bogging down situations.  I'm pretty well set on the 
laptop configuration, because I think today's laptops are meant to take hours 
and hours of work, unlike the machines of old.  

I, too, am a long time user of JAWS and know how it can  necessitate extra ram 
compared to someone who is not using a screenreader.
