No problem, no real big issue, just annoying :-)

Hello Steven sorry to hear that you have to go through the bios but once you
make that change it makes life with jaws normal again.

Sincerely, Ryan West

Thanks, it would seem that I don't have that option my laptop, possibly a
driver installation modification.
According to the manual, the option is in the BIOS.

Thanks for your help.

No. No! This is easy in Windows 7. Open your menus with the Windows key and
type "mobility center" without the quotes or enough to find it. Go through the
settings and there is clearly a setting about function keys. Select the other
option and it is all fixed. I cannot see the specific steps from where I am but
if you need them, I'll be glad to write it out and e-mail again.
Jaws will work perfect. I fought this for years till someone told me the same
thing on this list and life is so much better.

Greg

Hello Steven, I had the same problem with my new hp lap top and what you
have to do is have someone with sight go into the bios and change the
function keys to perform the functions without depressing the F/n key. Many
new laptops are now coming with media keys installed in the function
keys.As far as I know JFW will not work in the BIOS so you will need sighted
help.

Hi friends,

Does anyone have a Packard-Bell laptop.
For some reason, the function keys 1 through 10 don't seem to perform
standard operations without holding down the FN key and I am wondering if
there is a way to turn this feature off?

Many thanks in anticipation for any help,

Steve.

have you looked at the free

www.dictionary.com

- that works well, and cites good sources. CNIB members can have access to
the oxford English Dictionary on-line.
