VMware Workstation 8 is a program that you need to pay for. It costs
around $180, I think. It has features that are great if you are serious
about virtualization. Taking snapshots of the Virtual Machine is the
most useful. VMware Player is a free program and has the basic features
of Workstation, including creating Virtual Machines. A cheap, less
efficient way to "take a snapshot" using the free Player is to make a
copy of the folder on the host computer where the Virtual Machine is
stored. The Player will fill the needs of most casual users.

On both products, there is an Easy Install feature where you enter
information into the Virtual Machine Creation wizard, such as product
key, username, and password. Then after it creates the empty virtual
hard disk, it will perform an unattended installation. This works for
Windows, including Windows 8, and now some Linux installers.

Almost all if the functions of VMware Player 4 and Workstation 8 are
accessible without scripts. My scripts now will mostly add extras, such
as letting you arrow through your library of Virtual Machines and inform
you of their Power On Status. I have not yet posted scripts that work
with Workstation 8 and Player 4. I do not anticipate Player scripts
will add much.

The location of my scripts have changed due to Verizon started charging
for web space. It is now:
