Enhancements in JAWS 14.0.1534 (February 2013)
The following is a list of items addressed or added between the final JAWS 
14.0.1037 release and the JAWS 14.0.1534 posting.
JAWS

  *   Several issues with selecting text using JAWS have been addressed.
  *   Addressed an issue where JAWS was not reading the correct information 
when selecting various buttons that open drop down menus on the Facebook Web 
site. For example, the edit or remove buttons.
  *   Resolved an issue with the Braille Study Mode on-the-fly command 
WHIZWHEEL+NAVROW BUTTON not announcing and spelling the word as expected. 
This only occured with Focus braille displays that contain WHIZWHEELS.
  *   Removed an unnecessary entry regarding braille panning from the list 
of controls in the Define Structured Mode dialog box in Settings Center.
  *   Resolved a customer reported issue with JAWS not properly getting 
focus in WPF applications when exiting a JAWS dialog box such as the Links 
List.
  *   Resolved a customer reported issue using the SecureCRT application in 
Windows 8 where pressing INSERT+ALT+W to virtualize the window was not 
opening the virtual viewer as expected.
  *   The default dot firmness for Freedom Scientific braille displays has 
been changed to 100 percent, which is the highest setting.
  *   Resolved an issue where pressing WINDOWS Key+PAUSE to open the System 
Properties dialog box was not working over a JAWS Tandem connection.
  *   When running JAWS and MAGic together, resolved an issue where using 
Navigation Quick Key P to move by paragraph was moving by two paragraphs 
instead of one.
  *   Addressed a customer reported issue where JAWS would unexpectedly 
close when pressing ALT+TAB to move between Windows Explorer and a Command 
Prompt window.
  *   When using JAWS over a Remote Desktop connection, resolved a reported 
issue where the ALT key would sometimes become stuck under certain 
circumstances.
  *   Addressed a reported issue with JAWS not reading tree views correctly 
in Microsoft SQL Server Management Studio.
  *   When using a Focus braille display with JAWS over a remote Terminal 
Services connection, addressed issues with entering text in computer braille 
or contracted braille from the Perkins-style keyboard on the Focus display. 
Braille navigation worked as expected.
  *   Addressed an issue reading various symbols using the Danish Vocalizer 
Direct voice.
  *   Added two new built-in script functions, CallFunctionByName and 
PerformScriptByName, which take the name of the function or script to be run 
as the first parameter.
  *   Resolved an issue with the CollectionCopy script function not copying 
arrays properly.
  *   As requested by a customer, the BrailleString script function now 
works even when flash messages are turned off. In addition, the flash 
message prefix is no longer displayed as part of the text that is passed to 
the function to be displayed.
Adobe Acrobat

  *   Addressed an issue using the P and SHIFT+P Navigation Quick Keys to 
navigate PDF forms.
  *   Addressed an intermittent issue with JAWS unexpectedly closing when 
opening certain PDF files.
Microsoft Access

  *   Addressed an issue with Access 2010 where JAWS was not announcing 
controls as expected in the Backstage view.
Microsoft Excel

  *   Resolved an issue in Excel 2010 where certain controls in the Insert 
Hyperlink dialog box were not being spoken correctly when using TAB.
  *   When navigating in a comment, resolved an issue where the author's 
name was not spoken or displayed in braille.
  *   If you attempt to override the automatically defined title for a 
workbook that has defined titles using Quick Settings, the column/row 
options are now changing to undefined as expected.
  *   Resolved an issue where pressing INSERT+F7 from the suggestions list 
in the Spell Checker, was not displaying the spelling error in braille.
  *   Resolved an issue where pressing INSERT+F7 from the Spellchecker was 
not announcing the misspelled word unless focus was on the Suggestions list.
  *   Added custom tutor help messages for various edit fields in the Data 
Validation and Chart dialog boxes to provide more detailed information.
  *   If an edit combo box is opened from the ribbon, for instance, the Font 
edit combo, resolved an issue where JAWS would not speak any of the values 
as you navigated with the ARROW keys.
  *   If you apply formatting to a cell such as bold, resolved an issue 
where it was reported incorrectly the first time you applied it.
  *   A new group, Monitoring Cell Assignments, has been added to the 
Workbook, Worksheet, and Region Settings in the Quick Settings dialog box 
for Excel. Previously, the options in this group were found under the 
Monitoring Cells group. However, they were moved to this new group as they 
are worksheet specific. The remaining option under the Monitoring Cells 
group applies globally to all spreadsheets. The Quick Settings help messages 
for both groups of settings have also been updated.
  *   In Excel 2003, Pressing INSERT+UP ARROW to read the current line now 
works as expected in the File Name edit field of the Open and Save As dialog 
boxes.
  *   When entering a formula using the functions list in Excel 2007 or 
later, resolved an issue where JAWS was not automatically reading the 
formula bar after pressing TAB to populate it with the selected function.
  *   Resolved a customer reported issue where Excel 2007 would unexpectedly 
stop responding while performing a find with JAWS running.
  *   If you are editing a cell and the Excel option to move the focus 
rectangle after ENTER is pressed is turned off, addressed a reported issue 
where JAWS was not automatically speaking the contents of the cell after you 
pressed ENTER to finish editing and return to the spreadsheet.
  *   Resolved an issue where JAWS was not speaking the Web addresses when 
navigating in the Address edit combo of the Hyperlink dialog box.
Microsoft Internet Explorer

  *   Addressed a customer reported issue where turning off the Screen 
Message option in the Verbosity Preferences in Settings Center was causing 
table titles to not read as expected while using table navigation commands.
  *   If you are navigating the list of favorites in Internet Explorer 9 
using braille and the list scrolls to a new screen, resolved an issue where 
the braille display would no longer show the selected item unless you first 
pressed UP ARROW and then DOWN ARROW.
  *   Addressed an issue with the SHIFT+COMMA and SHIFT+PERIOD commands for 
moving to the beginning or end of the current element not working as 
expected in block quotes. This was observed mainly in Internet Explorer 10 
and Firefox 17.
  *   Addressed an issue where nested lists in Internet Explorer 10 and 
Firefox 17 were being treated as single lists. For example, a list 
containing four items that contained a nested list with three items was 
being treated as a single list of seven items.
  *   Addressed issues with column and row headers not being announced 
properly while navigating tables using the table navigation keystrokes. This 
was also addressed in Firefox.
  *   Resolved an issue where the start of certain lists containing 
graphical items were not being indicated on some Web pages. This issue was 
also resolved for Firefox.
  *   Resolved an issue that was encountered on certain Web pages including 
Amazon.com where items that should have been on separate lines were being 
run together on one line.
  *   Improved JAWS indication of embedded objects on Web pages in both 
Internet Explorer and Firefox.
  *   Resolved an issue where clickable items were not being identified in 
braille if the item containing the clickable attribute was inside of a 
table.
  *   When toggling the Document Presentation option through Quick Settings, 
resolved an issue where the new setting would not take effect until you 
moved away and then back to the application. This occured in both Internet 
Explorer and Firefox.
  *   Resolved an issue where row header information was repeated multiple 
times in tables that were formatted with axis and headers attributes.
  *   Addressed issues with some bulleted lists not being displayed 
correctly in braille.
  *   Resolved issues using JAWS with ARIA checkable list boxes.
  *   Addressed issues with information not being shown correctly on the 
braille display in the Internet Explorer 10 address bar on Windows 8.
  *   Addressed a customer reported issue with JAWS repeating check boxes 
multiple times on certain Web pages that automatically refresh.
  *   If you press TAB to move to a group of radio buttons in Forms Mode, 
addressed an issue where JAWS was not reading the prompt associated with the 
radio button group.
Microsoft Office

  *   Added new JAWS scripts for Microsoft Office 2013. You will now notice 
improved performance if you are using Office 2013 versions of Word, Outlook, 
Excel, or PowerPoint.
Microsoft Outlook

  *   Added a new braille abbreviation for the meeting cancelation flag. If 
you are focused on a message in an e-mail folder that contains a meeting 
cancelation, the letters mcncl will be shown on the braille display.
  *   Resolved an issue that was encountered by a customer in the Out of 
Office dialog box with the braille prompt for the message edit field not 
being displayed correctly.
  *   If you Opened then closed a message, resolved an issue where you could 
no longer open the context menu unless you moved focus away from the message 
list and back. In addition, if you opened the context menu from the message 
body, an issue was also addressed where the menu would unexpectedly close 
while navigated.
  *   When navigating by line in the edit field of the Signatures dialog 
box, resolved an intermittent issue where JAWS would sometimes read the 
previous line instead of the current one.
  *   Resolved an issue where JAWS would not indicate the alt text for 
images contained in Outlook 2010 messages while reading using Say All.
  *   Addressed an issue where you would sometimes hear extra, unnecessary 
information while navigating a table in a message using the Table Layer 
commands.
  *   If you are inside a read-only message containing a table and you press 
ALT+TAB to move to an open Word document, JAWS no longer says "table 0" 
before speaking the document info.
  *   Resolved an issue where split buttons in context menus were not being 
shown on the braille display.
  *   Resolved an issue where extraneous text was shown on the braille 
display when focused on the Search edit field.
  *   Resolved multiple issues with the Font Size edit combo box in Outlook 
2010 where braille would not show the new value while navigating with UP or 
DOWN ARROW. In addition, the control type is now shown in braille.
  *   If you are typing an e-mail address into the To or CC fields and the 
address is auto-completed, addressed an issue where the e-mail address was 
announced twice. This only occured in Outlook 2010.
  *   If you open the context menu from the Inbox then press INSERT+H for 
hot key help, resolved an issue where the help message stated you were in 
the Calendar when you were not.
  *   When using Navigation Quick Key T or SHIFT+T to navigate by tables in 
a virtualized message, JAWS no longer says "leaving table" since you are 
actually entering the table.
  *   Addressed an issue where pressing ENTER on a link in an e-mail message 
would sometimes open the wrong Web page.
  *   Addressed issues with routing the JAWS Cursor to the location of the 
Virtual PC Cursor in certain messages.
  *   Resolved an issue with section symbols sometimes appearing in certain 
types of bulleted lists in virtualized messages.
  *   When focused on an item in the list of messages that has a flag such 
as "unread", "forwarded", "replied", and so on, addressed an issue where the 
word "message" was being shown on the braille display prior to the message 
flag.
  *   If you are in an empty mail folder, resolved an issue where column 
headers were still being shown in braille.
  *   If you are navigating through a list of messages in Outlook 2010 and 
the screen scrolls, addressed an issue where JAWS would only read message 
flags and would no longer read header information.
  *   If the Use Virtual PC Cursor for Read-only Messages option in Quick 
Settings is disabled and you press UP ARROW from the top of the message or 
DOWN ARROW from the bottom of the message, resolved an issue where the 
cursor was unexpectedly wrapping around back to the beginning or end 
respectively.
  *   When reading using Say All in certain messages, resolved an issue 
where the same block of text would sometimes repeat continuously until you 
stopped the Say All.
  *   If the mouse is used to click on a link in a virtualized message, the 
link is now opened as expected instead of just selecting the text.
  *   Resolved an issue using the CTRL+COMMA keystroke to insert special 
symbols into an e-mail message. For example, to insert a c cedilla, press 
CTRL+COMMA, followed by C.
  *   When composing or editing an HTML message and a link is included 
inside a list, addressed a braille issue where dots 7 and 8, used to 
underline the link text, was positioned to the left instead of directly 
under the link.
  *   When attempting to select text in a virtualized e-mail message, 
addressed an issue where more text than expected was being selected.
  *   Message flags are now read correctly in the German version of Outlook.
Microsoft PowerPoint

  *   If you are typing text into a slide and you exceed the boundaries of 
the edit field, addressed an issue where JAWS was not automatically speaking 
the over flow alert message when you press ESC to return to the object 
level.
  *   Addressed issues with braille not tracking as expected when editing a 
slide.
Microsoft Visual Studio

  *   JAWS no longer reads extraneous information while navigating an SQL 
grid in Visual Studio 2010.
  *   If you are navigating an sql database table, JAWS now displays the 
cell values in braille.
Microsoft Word

  *   If you switch back to Word and then press BACKSPACE, addressed an 
issue where JAWS would announce the page number in addition to the character 
being deleted. This was observed in Word 2007.
  *   Addressed a customer reported issue where pressing UP OR DOWN arrow to 
change the values in an edit spin box was not working as expected.
  *   If you open a document that causes the Convert File dialog box to 
open, addressed an issue where you could not use the TAB key to move to the 
OK or Cancel buttons.
  *   When clearing titles for a table in Quick Settings, resolved an issue 
where it was difficult to determine what had been cleared when manually 
clearing titles.
  *   Addressed an issue where JAWS was not announcing the bullets in a 
bulleted list when navigating using the JAWS or Invisible Cursor.
  *   When in a table, resolved an issue where changing braille to display 
the current row or column was still only displaying the current cell. 
Braille table reading can be changed through Quick Settings, or by pressing 
RIGHT SHIFT+T (RIGHT SHIFT+DOTS 2-3-4-5) from the Focus braille displays.
  *   If the New lines and paragraphs indication option is changed through 
Quick Settings and you then turn off the displaying of paragraph marks in 
the Word document, addressed an issue where JAWS would still behave as iff 
paragraph marks were still visible until you moved focus away then back to 
the document.
Mozilla Firefox

  *   JAWS now indicates when text on a Web page is clickable. If a section 
of text is clickable, you can press ENTER on it to perform an action, such 
as opening a list of items.
  *   If you are composing or replying to a message using the GMail Web 
site, resolved an issue where pressing DOWN ARROW to move out of the edit 
field was skipping over the Send button.
  *   Resolved issues with ARIA menus on certain Web pages where you 
sometimes had to press ENTER twice to activate the menu.
  *   When navigating through a menu, resolved an issue where JAWS would say 
"leaving menu" if you navigated to a checkable menu item.
  *   Addressed a customer reported issue where JAWS was not indicating a 
page separator if it was preceded by a heading.
  *   If you are in an ARIA grid and Edit Mode is active, pressing the ESC 
key will exit Edit Mode, however, Forms Mode will still be active so you can 
continue navigating the cells in the grid. Pressing ESC once more will exit 
Forms Mode.
  *   Resolved an issue with navigating certain types of ARIA grids where 
JAWS would not indicate if a cell contained controls.
  *   Addressed an issue where JAWS was not properly indicating the Main 
ARIA region on some Web pages.
  *   When using the ARROW keys to navigate through ARIA tab controls on a 
Web page, addressed an issue where JAWS was not indicating the currently 
selected tab.
  *   Pressing ALT+ENTER on a graphic containing a long description now 
opens and displays the description in a new tab.
Mozilla Thunderbird

  *   Pressing INSERT+ALT+1 through 5 from an open message now reads message 
fields as expected.
  *   Resolved an issue where JAWS was not speaking the file names as you 
navigate the list of files in the File Selection dialog box.
  *   JAWS now properly reads auto-completed addresses using the latest 
version of Thunderbird.
Windows Explorer

  *   When viewing the properties for a folder, resolved an issue where 
pressing INSERT+B was not reading the contents of the dialog box as 
expected.
Windows 8

  *   When you press and hold ALT and then press TAB to cycle through all 
running applications, resolved an issue where the application names were not 
being shown in braille.
  *   Addressed an intermittent issue where JAWS would announce that a menu 
was active when it was not after establishing a network connection.
  *   Resolved an issue where pressing INSERT+PAGE DOWN was not reading the 
status line as expected in various applications if the window was maximized.
  *   If JAWS is configured to use a different sound device other than the 
default sound card, addressed an issue where JAWS sounds such as entering 
and exiting Forms Mode were still being heard through the default sound 
card.
