Hi, you know when I do this at work where we have Outlook 2010 that happens.
When I do that at home with Outlook 2003 it just gets pasted into the body
of the email message. Judy

hello the third way to do this is;

navigate to where the document is,
do not enter on it, just copy to clipboard,
now go to your outlook2013,
new message, put the necessary information, recipient,
subjectline,
now tab to the body of the message, now paste contents from clipboard,
you should see your attached file.
this works for all versions of outlook.
hope this helps.

If outlook is the default email client, just navigate to the file in
question, bring up the context menu by pressing shift f10 or your
applications key and arrow down to sendto and look for mail recipient.
After you press enter, the email client will open and the file will be
attached and you can press alt s to send it.
The other way to do this is while the email is open that you are composing,
alt n followed by n a f will bring up the insert file dialog, shift tab
twice into the folder list and browse for your document. Once you find the
document, press enter and the document will be attached.
