Rick and all, thanks so much for this explanation. I didn't think of it in that specific way, but what I always did think is that hot keys are already built into the computer. As you said windows keystrokes already there. Whereas short cut keys to my knowledge have to be activated. My computer didn't come with knowing control alt j would open jaws, I had to activate that short cut. Judy & Tallie

If you have menu and control help turned on in Jaws, as well as speak access keys, you can hear many hotkeys as you encounter them.
