There are quite a few nice ones on there.

Now if only they could develop a proper Afrikaans one I'll make sure they
win the nobel prize!!

It seems you did the Custom install rather than the typical install, as
neither Dutch nor Flemish voices appear in the Typical install which is just
English and Spanish voices. I like Sangeeta (India).

Hi Flor!

This is very interesting.

I have now done some experiments. This was using notepad and not my
normal
reading programme.

It seems as if the problem is specifically related to Belgian Dutch
Ellen.
It does not occur in any of the other synthesizers I have used.

Problem is that I use Ellen to read Afrikaans. Being a Flemish synth
she
does a better job than the Dutch one. The word reg meaning right in
Afrikaans is used a lot and it is a bit annoying hearing regarding all
the
time although I suppose it is something you can live with!
There is probably no way to change this!

Andre

Now Referring to some earlier posts/threads on the Dictionary File
(JDF): This is an Exceptions Dictionary, so it should really be used
only as
such - for pronunciation of exceptional words, or words that are
exceptions
to the usual rules of pronunciation that obtain in the language of use.

Subject: [JAWS-Users] pronounciation in vocaliser voices

Hi all

I have an idea that what I want to do is perhaps not possible.

It seems as if the vocaliser voices sometimes pronounce words as if they
are
acronyms. A good example is the group of letters r e g which when you
write
them as a word is pronounced as regarding. This seems to be the case no
matter what language synth you use.

I don't suppose that it is possible to change that?

Andre
