Hi David
1. You can split the record to multiple clip by the folowing step
Move cursor to the place where you want to split
Press shift+K to select from that position to the end of track
Press Ctrl+Alt+i or go to menu edit ->clip boundaries ->slit new.
The sound within selection will be cut, and move to a new track. If you want to export that part to seperate file, then go to file menu and choose export multiple. 2. The project file is the way of audacity to save your editting audio to work later do to the multi track recording and editting feature. User could record narration, adds backround music, and if they want, they can change the backround music.

Subject: [JAWS-Users] audacity portable

First off let me say I am a gold wave person but somehow I got volunteered
to figure out audacity for somebody. This is a program I have never opened
until 2 days ago. So far I have figured out how to record, save in wave or
MP3 but here is the rub at the moment.

How if it is even possible do you split up an audio file if say you record a
tape and then you want to break it in to the separate tracks? Also what in
the world is an audacity project file and what purpose does it serve? That I
have been avoiding as it does not seem to be a requirement.

I am not going to even consider becoming overly versed in this program
because once I get over these hurtles I'm out the door so to speak. It is
accessible but like I said give me gold wave any day, thanks in advance.

A complex system that does not work is invariably found to have evolved from
a simpler system that worked perfectly.
