Hi Java,

Try the following:

While in Windows Mail, with no messages open, Press Alt + E, for the edit
menu & arrow down to mark as read or unread & press enter. You may have to
play around a little with these settings to get your messages to be reported
the way you want but, this will hopefully get it done.

You can also press, control, shift, + O, for options, control + tab to the
read tab, Uncheck the 'mark message as read after displaying for' checkbox,
by
pressing spacebar, tab to apply, press the spacebar, tab to okay, press the
spacebar to save your change & close options.
HTH
Take care.
Mike

  Thanks indeed Patricia.
What do you do with the problem of not distinguishing the read and unread
messages?

sometimes it says, connecting...or no new mail, but I like to use that
hotkey when I first open the email client and it's finished downloading
the
mail, this tells me how many came in.

I use jaws 13 on windows 7 and windows mail, if I press jaws key and page
down*#3* on the numpad, jaws tells me how many emails I have and how many
  are unread

Subject: [JAWS-Users] Problem with Windows mail and WLM

  Hi there everybody
I could finally manage to install two new versions of Outlook Express on
Windows 7. One is named Windows mail and the other one is
named Windows Live Mail 8. I know WM and WLM are not the same as OE, but I
mean the interfaces are very similar. Now I have two
problems with both versions. The first problem is, neither one reads the
number of unread messages in my Inbox. the very bad
problem is , JAWS does not distinguish between the read messages and
unread
messages. It only keeps saying unread, unread, unread.
I tried that with both WM and WLM8. I also tried both of them with all
these
  versions of JAWS: 10, 11 and 13.

Is there any kind of solution, script, setting, manipulation,
configuration
or newer version of WLM or JAWS that can solve this
problem? For example if I add a piece of code to the scripts, or I use
newer
versions of WLM or I use JAWS 14, this problem can be
  solved?

  Thanks in Advance

  Javad Hoseini
