Try the following;

1, desktop;
Now press ctrl+spacebar you should hear jaws say not selected,

2, press the applications key,
Up arrow enter on personalize,

3, now tab a few times until you hear,
Change desktop icons link,
Press enter,
Now you should see computer, users files, network, by default these are all
unchecked,
press spacebar, on the items you wish to see on desktop,Now tab okay button
press enter, Now alt+f4 out of the personalize hopefully you will see
computer on desktop.
Note, in windows 7 the icon is,
Simply computer, not my computer.

  I'm still tweeking many problems on my laptop, and here's my newest tweek.
I need to know how to display "my computer" on either my desktop, or start
menu. I'd like to do this for several reasons, primarily because I'd like to
find out my os, because there's no windows programs listed  on the "programs
and features" list. please help
