  It happens instantly. Test it by opening up note pad, type some text and
  copy it to the clip board. Then hit the icon and then try pasting the text
  back in to your empty document. Nothing should be there at that point.

    If you want to have a shortcut to clear your clipboard, using Vista,
  Windows
    7, windows 8.0, 8.1,

    1, desktop,

    2, ctrl+spacebar jaws should announce not selected.

    3, applications key, up or down arrow and enter on new sub-menu.

    4, down arrow and enter on shortcut.

    5, type or copy in the following;
    %windir%\System32\cmd /c "echo off | clip"

    6, tab next enter,
    Now type a name, example,
    ClearClipboard,
    Tab finish press enter.

      copies something to it whatever was there gets erased. So, am curious
