Windows updates come as important and optional. The important ones are divided between security and program updates. I have selected to view each update before I download them, as I don't want Microsoft's Bing Desktop or other stuff they send in optional updates. My process is surely more time-consuming but I feel better informed (for example I needed a prerequisite security update to get the most recent serious bug fix for IE10) If I had automatic updates, I would not have received the vital update because the box which selects the update was unchecked (because I did not have the prerequisite one).

The latest security update for IE10 was issued Thursday, May 1, so you can probably toss out the specific schedule idea.
check your setting on window update if you have setting. You can set it up by day by week, by specific day or week.
