Excellent. Thank goodness for those who understand so much, but more so for
how these same people are willing to take the time to help others.

Subject: Re: [JAWS-Users] Retrieving an unsaved docx in Word 2010

Hello liuda,

It might still be recoverable if you have auto save and auto recover options
checked. If your auto save options are set to 10 minutes then you would
need to have the unsaved document open for that amount of time. Even
unnamed documents are often retrievable in this scenario. For example, if
Word is calling your unnamed document Document 1 then it might be in your
unsaved documents location and have a name such as AutoRecovery save of
Document1.asd.

To check to see if your auto save and auto recover options are active go
under the file menu using Alt with F, open Word options, and arrow down in
the categories to Save. Tab across the items in this category to find out
if the auto save and auto recover checkboxes are checked and if so the
amount of time set before they become effective. You can also find out the
location for the unsaved files. In the edit box that shows the location,
select and copy the path.

Go back into an open document and use CTRL with O. Paste the path you
copied into the file name box and then use shift with tab until you are at
the list of files in that folder. If there is more than one file with a
.ASD extension you might need to open one at a time. However, if it was a
file that had not been named then Word will have given it a name such as the
one shown above. If there are no files with .ASD extension then it is
possible that you didn't have auto save turned on or you didn't have the
unnamed file open long enough before auto save kicked in. You can try using
CTRL with O and pasting in the following path. However, you can confirm the
path being used in the Save category of options. Replace Brian in the
following path with your user name. If opened using Windows Explorer or
File Explorer an error message can occur. It is best to use the Open dialog
box in Word to open any .ASD files found.

C:\Users\Brian\AppData\Roaming\Microsoft\Word\

Take care.

It was a new document, unfortunately, never saved before. Thanks.

Hi,
If, you did not change anything at all in the document and you close it,
it's already been save from before.
So, jaws will not ask you, if you want to save the document.

I use Word 2010 and JAWS 16.

Somehow an important document closed, but it never asked me to save it. I
cannot remember the file name, but I hope it is still living somewhere. I
think it is and that there was a process to accomplish this operation.

Thanks for all help and I hope this never happens again!
