so, unlike i.e., when I uninstall it, it would remove it totally, and then I
would need to install it again, right? maybe it would be easier to find out
when chrome upgraded last, and restore back to a point previous to the
upgrade

I would suspect you would only need to uninstall your current version of
chrome then go to oldapps.com and find an older version. that’s what I
think cause it's not a microsoft product.
