try using
insert shift and b
it reads the battery life amount

Hi, the key command for checking the time left is shift+caps lock +
the letter B. I think you might have to get into the JAWS basics menu
and switch your keyboard layout to the laptop layout before this key
command will work. It always works for me, and JAWS will tell you
when battery is low at ten percent and at seven percent. When that
message comes up, press the spacebar.
