I am not doing this as sighted help is not available, will wait, maybe
forever as what I currently need is working.

Subject: [JAWS-Users] my experience with Windows 10

i upgraded my Windows 7 pro computer to Windows 10 pro not from my windows
update, i used the media creation tool.
i think you can find the tool by searching for windows 10 free upgrade or
something. when running the tool i selected upgrade this PC.

the start of the upgrade can be run with jaws speech. it'll first say
downloading windows 10. the progress bar can not be announced by jaws
unless you press alt+tab to jaws to windows 10 upgrade. but i'm not sure if
you should do that too many times. when the download is complete jaws will
announce it. then jaws will say checking your computer. after the computer
check, jaws will announce gathering necessary updates. after that jaws will
announce choose what to keep. you'll have three options: keep personal
files and apps, just keep files, or keep nothing. i chose the first one
because i think if you don't keep apps jaws might be deleted.
*note*
before starting this process make sure you disable antivirus and disconnect
printer and other devices you can keep speakers and the mouse connected
if you don't you might get upgrade failed or jaws will announce there was
a problem.
when the upgrade begins jaws will be silent
let the upgrade proceed, i let it go over night and when i checked in the
morning my computer had turned off.
when you turn the computer back on you'll be presented with the customize
your computer, the same as when you bought a new computer. jaws won't be
active i'm not sure if windows narrator can work. i just got sighted help
to perform this task.
after that's complete your computer will have windows 10
when jaws starts if activation was lost just go into update activation
if you get any other jaws errors run the jaws update

Download the JAWSR screen reading software version 16.0 update to your
downloads folder from one of the links below:

. JAWS 16.0.4350 64-bit English - May 2015

ftp://ftp.freedomscientific.com/users/hj/private/WebFiles/JAWS/J16.0.4350ENU
-x64.exe

. JAWS 16.0.4350 32-bit English - May 2015

ftp://ftp.freedomscientific.com/users/hj/private/WebFiles/JAWS/J16.0.4350ENU
-x86.exe

you want to save the download

Once the update is in your downloads folder run it you should get the
options modify, repair or remove. choose repair!
after the repair is done all should be fine with jaws.
i'm just using windows 10 for the basic operating system and none of the new
features. jaws works fine no problem with that.
windows 10 renamed the computer folder this PC
i did notice that when after upgrade my internet explorer did not work, so i
just deleted it and installed firefox.
i use windows live mail for email and it works fine.
here are some tips i found:

in windows 10 press win+I to go to settings (control panels)
to shut down/restart the computer select the desktop using alt+tab or right
mouse click on a blank space on the desktop then press alt+F4
a window popsup with the options shut down, hibernate, sleep, restart or log
off select one then press enter

the windows 10 search field is Cortana
press win key and til Cortana is announced then type your search criteria
followed by enter
to get disc defrag type it in Cortana press enter
to get windows update type it in Cortana press enter
to use notepad type it in Cortana then press enter
to get programs and features type it in Cortana then press enter
*******
you can get most of what you want by typing it into Cortana
when Cortana is announced jaws won't announce type in text, but the typing
field is ready to accept text so just type after hearing Cortana
**************
(note not necessary if you already have a screen reader)
press win key+enter to toggle windows narrator on/off
**********
