Yes, this was introduced in Microsoft Windows 8 and 8.1 I think.

I thought it was automatically re-starting, for some unknown reason. Did a forced re-start. Heard similar info. Found sign in button. Space bar. Computer shut down. One of the times, I heard something about starting in the locked mode. Now, the computer starts normally, as it pertains to the sound and humming. However, there is no sound. Not even the windows start up sound. The computer automatically shuts down in about a minute and half, after I press the start button. Without sighted help how do I get it to start in safe mode? Since narrator has been so good in windows 10, will it allow me to do a system restore? Sighted help might arrive, sometime tomorrow.
