I did a little research on this. When a message is sent electronically and the message was not processed by a word processor such as Wordpad or Microsoft Word, the vertical tab is a very important character. It notifies the reader that the following text was originally placed on another line. The vertical tab is an identifier indicating the size limits of the original receiving screen. If you are sending and receiving on a smart phone or an IPod, the vertical tab is a common occurrence. There may be other explanations for this particular character. Causing Jaws to avoid pronouncing it is, in my opinion, a mistake.
