I just create a shortcut key for each version of jaws on my system.
Control+alt+7, control+alt+8 for versions 17 and 18 for example. Easy-peazy.

I completely understand how useful the taskbar and pinning items are.
I've been pinning and removing items from there since its birth. I have 10
items on my taskbar which I do not remember all the items, except for the
internet and my email program which are windows 1 and 0 for ie and outlook
respectively..
I only have one jaws version loaded as well. I have 18 but didn't find it
well worth installing, so I just run with 17.
For now, I still use the windows key r jaws then version number and press
enter to launch jaws when necessary.
I'm going to go eat my left over spaghetti now. Mommas hungry.

Kimsan, I want to back up what Jim and Mike are saying. it's hard to see how
useful pinning applications can be until you work with them. Mike posted a
useful list of his pinned apps, and except for JAWS, mine is similar, if in
a different order. Here's an example of how useful pinned applications can
be.

Suppose I start the day by opening my email. In my case, I press Windows
key+4. Then I want to copy the text of a long, complex email into a Word
document. However, I find that first copying complex texts into Notepad
clears up a lot of mess. So I press windows key+3 to bring up Notepad, copy
the text, then copy the result, close Notepad with alt-F4, then open Word
with windows key+2.
I paste the text into a document.

Then suppose I'm ready to return to my email. All I need do is press
windows key+4, and my focus is immediately back there. No need to rotate
around with alt-tab, etc.

Then something in an email makes me want to find out more online, so now I
press Windows key+1 to bring up IE. There, I find information that I want to
add to a document I've been working on. So I press windows-key+2 to return
to word. That done, I'm ready to resume email, so I press windows key-4 and
I'm back where I started.

I hope this message is more useful than just convoluted. When I first
started using windows 7, I was following directions from a textbook and
tried this pinning method as an exercise. But once I worked with it, I
realized just how easy it made moving from application to application. The
numbers you assign to your applications soon become second-nature. In my
case, I pretty much set them up as they occurred to me. There's no logical
sequence.

For the record, I don't pin JAWS to the taskbar. I rarely move from version
to version. I have JAWS 18 on all the time, unless I mute it, and in that
case, pinning can't help.

If jaws is on the taskbar for me to launch and I forgot which number it was
on that does me no good.
I understand the tip however but this is in reference to launching jaws.

Hi Kimsan,

When you forget what, &in what order shortcuts are on the taskbar press,
Windows key + T, & this will put you on the 1st item on the taskbar. Now
right arrow to see what's there & count as you arrow to know what number
each item is.
Take care.

Wonderful tip Jim.
There are times I forget which item is on the taskbar, so to launch jaws, I
simply bring up the run dialog and type jaws followed by the version number.

Hi Jaws users list.

A tip for starting, and switching versions of Jaws on your W-10 computer.

In my experience with W-10.

I like to pin my Jaws icon to the taskbar. For example, my Jaws 18 is the
second item on my taskbar, so pressing Windows key+2, will start Jaws 18 on
my computer. In my opinion, this is a better way to start Jaws. I think it
works more consistently than a standard Jaws keystroke like control+ALT+j.

How to pin Jaws to the taskbar.

Press the windows key, or press enter on the start button.

Tab two times, to the apps view list box.

Now just press the letter J, until you get to the Jaws version you wish to
pin to the taskbar.

For example Jaws 18.

You will here, Jaws 18 collapsed, press enter to expand.

You should hear, Jaws 18.

Make sure that Jaws 18 is highlighted.

Press the applications key, go down to, more submenu, right arrow one time,
press enter on pin to taskbar.

You are now done.

Now press windows key+m, go to desktop.

Tab twice to the taskbar, or just press windows key+t, this lands you on the
first item pinned to the taskbar.

Press the right arrow key, and count the number of icons on your taskbar,
until you come to Jaws 18.

Again, Jaws 18 is the second item on my taskbar, to start Jaws 18 on my
computer, just press windows key+2.

This is a much smoother way, of starting Jaws on your W-10 computer.

Now Jaws 16 is the eighth item on my taskbar, so I press windows key+8, to
start Jaws 16.

So this is a great and easy way of switching from one version of Jaws to
another.

I hope you all of enjoyed this tip about starting Jaws on your W-10
computer.

I wish everyone a very Merry Christmas, and a happy new Year!

P.S. My three month cancer check-up was free of any new bladder tumors.
Praise the LORD! Thanks for praying!

Time for more coffee! Smiles.
