Marilyn -

That's really weird, since this is largely separate from your sound card,
which might have a Control Panel entry of its own, depending on a lot of
things that aren't relevant. In my Windows XP Pro SP2 system, I open Start
Menu, open Settings, press ENTER on Control Panel and after that opens, it's
called Sounds and Audio Devices and I can get there by pressing the letter S
three or four times.

I have a worse problem: sound does not appear on my control panel list.
What to do? My sound card is Soundblaster from Creative. Should I look
there? marilyn
