Hopefully this will help someone. I had a feeling that it would be
something silly, and well it was.
I have been unable to communicate via RMI from a remote client to a linux
box. I tried the same exact code/config on a Solaris box and it worked.
In my linux install, in my hosts file the only entry was for the loopback
address. After experimentation, I found that you have to make the first
entry the ip address of the box on the network (loopback second entry) and
voila the issue is resolved.
