Certainly it is theoretically possible to pair-program being in distinct
remote locations. But you would have to use state of the art conferencing
equipment (video+audio+whiteboard). If you do not provide convenient
chatting environment, where people can share their thoughts right away (not
always verbally) and quickly, as it is possible in face-to-face situation,
then you are not pair-programming to the full extent.
I suppose it is annoying if you write code, and your parter interrupts you
via ICQ with his "great" ideas... :)
